: Yes. In the Silmarillion in Ainulindale Illuvatar says "Ea! Let these things Be! And I will send into the Void the Flame Imperishable, and it shall be at the heart of the World..." : Jon I dissagree that there is any real distinct connection between the three rings of power, and the three silmarills. The reason is this. It always makes an impressive idea to connect mysticism to the Greek elements. The old philosophers reasoned that the elements Earth Air Fire Water made up the world, however it has been adopted by fantasy writers. It's just as ridiculous to reason that the Silmarills and the Rings are connected as to say that the Silmarills are connected to three of the "Captain Planet and the Planeteers" rings. Remember? Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Heart... Goooo planet.... I believe that the running theme of the Elements are just cliche ideas that seem to continue through far too many books. Hey, I'm not dissing Tolkien, but too many people copied his fantasy ideas.... Dunno, but I dissagree totally on this issue with you guys, and reckon any connection is merely coincidencial due to the running themes of elements in general, rather than any specific reason.
