In email discussions with someone else, I've argued a possible line of descent for Gildor which would not disturb the published genealogy. We must, however, ASSUME that Finrod did indeed marry Amarie of the Vanyar in Aman after he was released from Mandos and that they would have had at least one child, Inglor, whose son would then be Gildor. Gildor would have had to go to Middle-earth in the Second Age, but could have done so when Glorfindel returned to help Gil-galad against Sauron. An alternative suggestion presented to me suggests Inglor was not a Finwean himself, but I'd rather not go into that in more detail to preserve the confidentiality of that part of the discussion. These interpretations stretch matters, for though Gildor could not have supplanted Gil-galad if he was indeed a paternal grandson of Finrod, one must ask why he would not be considered for the High Kingship after Gil-galad's death (or why Tolkien should say no more heirs to the High Kings lived in Middle-earth).
