: Sorry goodgulf, I actually think that you can convincingly build a case for it being an entwife, that is, if you are a very good "debatist", I just think that the case for not-entwife is stronger. Anyway, I remember when I felt profoundly sorry for the Ents and wanted it to be an entwife and the Ents to find out- part of me still does, but, I have read too much William Gibson since.... (no happy endings there) I had thought about debating the point, like even a bent over Entwife wouild seem huge to a Hobbit, but idn't have the time or inclination to post. There is a sense of pathos about our knowing an Ent-like creature was seen in the Shire, but Merry and Pippin are unaware, thus Treebeard misses a possible chance to discover either the Entwives or others of his race. But, I'm not in the mood to debate this right now. But ask me about Arwen and what we know of herr character (nothing, or fairly close to nothing). And yet some folks can post long vivid accounts of Arwen based on one line spoken by her to Frodo and one silent appearance in Imladris. I still maintain that we know virtually nothing about Arwen's personality. : :-( Neithan Turambar : (hmmm wonder why I chose this tag)
