The reason I'm so skeptical is that it seems that Jackson is taking some liberties from the story. Don't get me wrong, from what I've read, it seems that he is going to nail down the look and feel of Middle-earth without a problem. But will he nail the look and feel of Tolkien is what I wonder. Some of the casting choices I like; others make me incredibly apprehensive--notably Wood and Astin playing pivotal roles. I would have thought it better to make the hobbits unknowns, and have a relatively known actor play Aragorn--but they went the opposite way. I think that's a huge mistake. Then there are the alterations in story. I can understand that there are large sections of exposition that need to be condensed, especially from Shadow of the Past and Council of Elrond. But other than that, why alter the story...delete yes. But alter? Giving Arwen a large role is just plain silly--and now we have something of a pop icon wannabe in the role. I'll miss not being able to see the splendour and power of Glorfindel in his wrath revealed at the Ford of Bruinen. That, I fear, is just the tip of the iceberg. There's no question that this film will be popular. But will it be a classic? I'm VERY skeptical
