: : : : : Try this from a different angle. I claim that Middle Earth is my religion. Actually it would be most accurate to say that at one time Middle Earth was my religion, and that it continues to be a part of my spirituality to this day.

: : : : Or perhaps it is the word religion that is throwing you off? Since there is no *organized* body of believers, and for me it is a personal and individual thing, you may be more comfortable with the word spirituality?

: : : : Whatever. It's true, it's lack of historicity is irrelevant, and that is what matters to me.

: : : At any rate, nothing evil can come from this religion, so I see nothing objectionable in embracing the spiritual values of Middle-Earth. In the Tolkien community there are many who do so to varying degrees, and they are all the richer for it.

: : I'm sorry to say that wherever there is good, evil may come of it. If you guys really think ME is a religion, I wouldn't be suprized if a whole lot of Sauron/Melkor worshipers turned up.

: I would be surprised if somewhere in this strange world there isn't already such people. Stranger things have happened. Look at the other oddball evil things that some choose to follow.

: Consider also that evil is seldom highly original. Whether you call it Melkor or Satan or Hitler or the Dark Side of the Force, it all boils down to the same destructive religion of hate.

: Blessings, : We'll need them...

: Galadriel

My thoughts exactly. 'Tis a pity, in this world, that good cannot stand alone without evil always on its heels ready for a back-stabbing at the first opportunity.

Imagine the glory and splendour of Middle Earth (and ofcourse) our own world) if Melkor hadn't rebelled and the world marred for eternity.

Okay, enough of that. I'm out.
