: What do y'all think of a hobbit movie as a prequel to LOTR. We all know the tones of each are completely different, the Hobbit being geared towards a younger crowd. So... : Should the Hobbit movie go off on its own? Creating a whole new paradigm, a whole new feel, in effect a whole new world that is only peripherally related to that of the LOTR trilogy of movies? : Or should it be "tweaked" (with some parts being outright dumped) to make it more compatible? Well it wouldn't be the first time The Hobbit has been tweaked to fit in better with The Lord of the Rings. The first edition is significantly different to the versions of the book we see today particularly with regard to how Bilbo got the ring. I would like to see a proper movie of The Hobbit and I think that some very minor areas could be "improved" to fit better, references to goblins could be changed to orcs, the Rivendell scenes could possibly use sets from the LoTR movie, Thranduil could be named (we might even catch a glimpse of Legolas) etc. I wouldn't really like to see to much fiddling though just for the sake of fitting in with the Peter Jackson project. Part of the books charm is that it was written for children, I think updating it for adults would be a disaster. : Me? I see both points, but I tend to think it should be made a bit more "compatible." But I'm not sure. (Hence this poll.) : Dave C-Q
