Therefore, when you say that they "can seem parallel from afar" you are hitting the nail on the head because this is what Tolkien wanted...a slight parallel, not an overwhelming allegory. : : : and about heaven-hell: where in the Silmarilion is it said the Men, and/or Elves can reach hell? everybody has the same fate. and, i'm not that familiar with chritianity heaven and hell, but isn't Lucifier supposed to rule, or something, hell? by what you say, Melkor is just thrown into it. : Lucifer was also thrown into hell (with 1/3 of all the angels). He "ruled" hell because he was the most powerful being and therefore had the most authority. Here, again, there are certain parallels between Melkor and Satan but it is not an allegorical rendition of the bible storie, just a slight comparison...probably what Tolkien wanted. ***Clapping hands*** I couldn't have said it better myself.
