: : According to our own poll, two-thirds (68%) of Tolkien fans believe Peter Jackson's Elves should have pointed ears. Recent photos of Liv Tyler as Arwen reveal that she does indeed have pointed ears, but the bottoms of her ears are somewhat rounded, so someone picked a leaf (though I cannot tell what kind -- botany is one of my weaker subject). The points are not very pronounced by the ears do stick out from the side of her head at an angle.

: : I must say I didn't really expect it to happen any other way. If nothing else, the pointed ears are an obvious physical cue to the viewing audience of who is and who isn't human.

: >>>I would be very dissapointed if they had ears, but I can't think of any other way to let the audience know they aren't human. But we know the major difference between Elves and men is that elves don't die naturally; how will the audience know this? With pointed ears, the audience of non-Tolkien fans would probably just think that Elves simply have pointy ears and sing a lot and live in the forest. I don't think that is a good portrayal of Elves; there is a lot more to them than that.

won't Elrond saying that he has been at the side of Isildur when he took the ring be enough to understand elves don't die too quickly? i'm sure even the less-intelligent audience will understand Elves thru hints like that.
