The White Councilwarrior skillTolkien and Inklings Discussion |

Posted by Neithan on December 26, 1999 at 08:02:22 Of course such a post will be started by the resident madma.. eehh SWORDS- I meant swordsman. Anyway, somewhere I stumbled upon the assertation that Gimli and Legolas were greater warriors than Aragorn and Boromir. I disagree, this assumption is based on their merits at Hornburg where they slay 41 and 42 Orks respectively (in my recollection). This however, is done over the course of an entire battle. Now take it from me, who has experience in such matters, that it is not as great a feat to slay any number of opponents during the course of a battle as it is to face the same number on your own and still get them. If t6hat deduction is right Boromir would be the greatest fighter, but it seems from the descriptions we gain as if Aragorn surpasses him but is equalled in skill by Eomer and Imrahil. What do you lot think, can we make a War of the Ring- hierachy for warrior skills? And how would it look? Sauron Glorfindel Balrog/Gandalf (and can we assert that they fought only with mundane means?) Elrond/Celeborn Aragorn Eomer/Imrahil/Gimli/Legolas Boromir (the others grow in skill while he expires) Dain??? Brand?
