I would say it had something to do with making a better story, but even that doesn't make sense, because if he really wanted the bride of Aragorn to have to make that decision, he could have just had Elrond wed a mortal woman. Perhaps not though, because usually that sort of things is extremeley special, and it really wouldn't be if Elrond just did it for the hell of it. : I don't think so... Wasn't Elrond descended from Elwing? And as far as Elrond's children being pure elven, remember: Elrond was known as the Half-Elven. He passed that legacy down to his children. : -Olorin
