: : Those people who are aghast at the thought of a hard-ridin', sword-wieldin' Arwen might want to consider the implications of the name of Aragorn's horse, Roheryn, which Christopher Tolkien says in the entry for "roch" in the Elvish dictionary of THE SILMARILLION means "horse of the Lady", and was so named because Arwen gave the horse to him as a gift.

: I assume that we are discussing the eminate arrivale of the Jackson movies. I have heard that Arwen will have a much greater role in the movies then she had in the books. My questions is, does anyone know *how much* her role has increased from print to film?

To quote Gandalf: "Not as much as fear makes it." Reliable "spies" (Moriarty from Aint-it-cool-news.com) have gone on record saying that the reactions that she had been transformed into a Xena-type character are grossly overstated. As an example, she does appear in the "Flight to the Ford" scene; but she *does not* take Glorfindel's place (at least not completely; I don't know the specifics).

I would guess that the "making her role more prominent" has more to do with mingling the main text of LotR with the "Tale of Aragorn and Arwen," (i.e., simply giving her more sceen time) than with making her a warrior princess.

Of course, this could just be the optimist in me ;).

Cheers.
