The White CouncilGoing "Medieval"...Tolkien and Inklings Discussion |
|
Posted by Michael Martinez on February 06, 2000 at 17:21:18 I have been reading the board over the last couple of days but I have refrained from posting in order to give us all a cooling off period. It is not my intention to snub anyone, particularly Forkbeard who has asked me to respond in detail about the medieval question. I don't think now would be a good time for several reasons, one being that in order to do it properly I would have to set aside a considerable amount of time to prepare notes and references. I don't have the time to set aside. I have, in fact, turned my attention to other projects which have been waiting on me (such as completely redesigning the Movie Fact/Rumor Web site -- the new design is now available). Also, since some people were concerned the sentiments of the White Council community were strongly anti-medieval, I felt it might be worthwhile to let the medieval discussions run without input from me. We all know I can overwhelm most people in a debate, and my comments are certainly scattered throughout the archives. If casual visitors in the coming days have their pro-medieval perceptions reinforced by a growing pro-medieval commentary here, I'm sure I'll have a chance to provide adequate counter- and rebuttal arguments later on. The issue has been around for as long as Tolkien's books have been published. It will not be settled in a day.
