: Most of Tolkien's language is actually fine. But to the extent he employs these faux-Shakespeareanisms, I would scrap then. As to which specific lines I'm referring, I would start with all of the ones listed in the first email in this chain. Again, I believe that previous films have shown that this is possible (with some adaptations, but not much). In Excalibur there are lots of similar language usages, "Behold, I am Arthur, son of Uther, King of the Britons." It works, and other movies are the same. On the other hand, the "dumbing down" of such will give you a Kull the Conqueror (Kevin Sorbo's monument to poor fantasy scripts). Glorfindal doesn't have to go into the fifteen second speil on who he is, but he doesn't have to be reduced to, "I am Glorfindal" either. And why not use Gandalf's "Begone foul dwimmerlaik"? the psuedo-archaic here (and in many other places) is quite appropriate and keeps the story and the audience in a believable fantasy realm. -RobRoy
