: Given our lengthy, and very enjoyable discussion of huscarles and Anglo-Saxon, and Danish, warrior society, I redirect our attention back to the main question. Given all the worthwhile arguments made by the three of us, it would seem that indeed the Dunedain resemble the huscarles. Were they not kinsmen, countrymen and friends of Aragorn? Were they not devoted to protection and warfare (protecting the north as well as the shire)? Did they not rally to Aragorn's call (or at least his hopes)? Were they not a somewhat aristocratic (although a long lost one) band of warriors who devoted their services to their leige lord? It would seem that there is a good deal of similarity (and I stress similarity not exactness) between the Dunedain at the battle before the Gate and the Harold's huscarles. And that the various arguments and observations we have placed upon the table would support this assertion. I do not think I can find enough substancial evidence for this, or rather I think we, if we apply ourselves in the same way, can find as much for them being similar to other aristocratic warrior bands, or military elites or even military orders, just as I can find as much similarity between the Battle of Morannon and the Battle at Hastings, and the Battle of Morannon and other ancient and medieval battles. I think we need more proof (read clues and sources, no proof is proof- so to speak). NT
