: : Bakshi first used roto-scoping, painting over live action, combined with traditional animation in his film Wizards, which pre-dates the LOTR film. In my opinion, Wizards is a better film.Well, at least he didn't change a character's name mid-way thought the film, like he did with the Saruman/Aruman bit. If you want a good laugh, watch for the scene where fleet-footed Aragorn trips over his scabbard while running and falls. : snip : I had forgoten that bakshi used it in Wizards (a very dark but likable film). Has it been used since? How much success has it had? : -RobRoy To the best of my knowledge, I don't think it has been used since. At least, not in any animated films that I've heard about or seen. Interesting little tid-bit. Disney often filmed live action versions of animated scenes. These were used only as guides for the animators, and were not painted over. This may have been where Bakshi got the idea to take it one step further.
