Gandalf undoubtedly met with people long before he came to know Aragorn, and Aragorn spent many years wandering the lands getting to know men. The Ents had become a secretive folk. If they were playing no role in the affairs of Rohan and Gondor during Aragorn's lifetime before the War of the Ring, it should not be surprising that Aragorn was astonished to learn they still existed (even despite Celeborn's cryptic warning). Aragorn had probably given them little thought. Nor does he seem to have ever visited Fangorn Forest. What would have been his purpose in doing so? I gather from his conversation with Legolas that he had heard of the Ents but could not explain Celeborn's dire warning. Hence, he was reluctant to say anything when Legolas himself appeared to be in the dark about what Celeborn meant.
