: : What happened to Sweden? Virtually every other country in Europe has a thriving bar-pub culture, but not Sweden. Did you guys take the "Protestant work-ethic" a bit too seriously? : Martin. If you look up the words "big brother" and "extremely high taxes on alcohol" in Encyclopaedia Britannica you'll find a picture of the swedish flag. Big brother don't want us to get a bad liver. Big brother don't think the people could manage to take responisbility of their own intake of alcohol. This have backfired in the face of Big Brother when huge quantities of alcohol have been smuggled into the country and many people "cook" their own booze. In Sweden you are allowed to vote when you´re 18. You´re allowed to drive a car (with licence) but you´re not allowed to buy alcohol in the special government-run stores called "Systembolag". You´re on the other hand allowed to buy alcohol at clubs and bars, but they´re seldom open for people under the age of 20. But people are getting tired of Big Brother watching over their shoulder and the pub- and bar culture are finally making it's way into Sweden too. : : Cheers : Mjolnir Sort of have to, with the bridge opening you will have acces to the most alchoholised nation of all, Denmark. Maybe we know now why we lost all those wars, it was not great powers' support to Sweden, but Danish alcholism;-) BTW, Denmark and Sweden were the most militarised states in European history (with the possible exception of the Third reich) during those wars, those Oranje fanatics marching actually march to celebrate the slaughter of protestant Irishmen by professional Danish soldiers hired out as mercenaries by the Danish King, all of protestant faith!!
