: I think the way Gimli was ultimately treated by Galadriel would have raised his opinion of elves I don't think Legolas would have really blamed the dwarves for the balrog, even though he popped out as a result of the greed of the dwarves for mithril. In addition, even though Moria was dark and unpleasant surely Legolas could envision how wonderful it once was. : The fact that their friendship grew over time strikes as making it all the more believeable. Each must have gained greater insight and respect for each other and their races as a result of going through so many trials together, which can often be the case in real life. I can handle a growing relationship easier than I can a one time "thing" that would suddenly make them good buds. sometimes it seems to be that the friendship was more initiated by Gimli thatn it was by Legolas. Also, Gimli showed great respect and admiration for Elven achievements than Legolas ever showed for dwarves.
