: : Dwarves did not like to sail. It's unlikely any of them would have willingly gone to the eastern continent. (I note this point was addressed further down, but I've snipped that section.) : : The Elves all drifted westward, so it seems unlikely any of them would have gone to the eastern continent as well. : I thought it was only those who went on the Great Journey that drifted westward, the unwlling 'Avari' stayed near Cuivienen and could have gone anywhere after that - it is not recorded. : Also, its the Southern continent we originally referred to, South of the lands of Harad beneath the Haragaer : : The Numenoreans only established colonies on the western coasts of Middle-earth, so they visited the east but did not stay there. : But surely ghiven the nature of Numenorean expansion over the 2500 years they were interacting in the S.A groups unhappy with the ruling house could have made their own petty kingdoms elsewhere in M-E? Agreed the royal house didn't sanction any colonies, but breakaway leaders MAY have done.... : : : : : : I don't think you will find any dwarves there, I thought : : : : : all of the seven houses where located?? : : : Longbeards: Misty Mountains (Khazad-dum) : : : Broadbeams and Firebeards: Blue Mountains (Belegost and Nogrod) : : : Blacklocks, Stonefoots, Ironfoots, Stiffbeards, I don't know, : : : but 2 of these were in Misty Mts. and 2 were in Red Mts. : : No, they were all east of the Iron Hills. The first group were at least as far east of the Iron Hills as Gundabad was east of the Ered Luin -- maybe 800 miles. The second group were at least that much farther east of the first group. So it looked something like this: : : : : : 8 1,2 3 4,5 6,7 : : : : Where: : : 1) Firebeards : : 2) Broadbeams : : 3) Longbeards : : 4) Blacklocks : : 5) Stonefoots : : 6) Ironfists : : 7) Stiffbeards : : 8) Petty-dwarves (outcasts from the other groups) : OK so Dwarves don't like to sail, but they could have been forced to. : Dave I doubt it. As far as I know, the dwarves would rather be eliminated alltogether than go on a boat. When Gimli went with Legolas on his ship, that could easily be considered one of the bravest acts in dwarven history.
