: Certainly not impossible, but I think they would more likely : build tunnels beneath water than sail on it. They weren't COMPLETELY terrified of water. Thorin and Company were taken up the Running River by boat from Laketown. I just feel it highly unlikely they would have migrated over sea in any direction.
