: : Seems to me that most or all of them were dead. Except for Maglor, all the great Elf-Lords in the Silmarillion are accounted for. The House of Finwe was primarily responsible for the revolt and leading the Noldor into exile.

: : Sons of Finwe: : : Feanor was killed by Balrogs : : Fingolfin died in combat with Morgoth : : Finarfin turned back after the kinslaying, never reaching ME

: : Sons of Feanor : : Maedthros cast himself into a pit of fire : : Maglor is singing somewhere : : Celegorm was slain by Dior : : Caranthir also slain by Dior : : Curufin also slain by Dior : : Amrod died attempting to recover a Silmaril from Elwing : : Amras died attempting to recover a Silmaril from Elwing

: : Sons of Fingolfin: : : Fingon slain by Balrogs in the Nirnaeth : : Turgon died in the sack of Gondolin

: : Sons of Finarfin: : : Finrod was slain by a wolf defending Beren : : Orodreth died fighting at the head of the army of Nargothrond : : Angrod was killed by fire at the Dagor Bragollach : : Aegnor also killed by fire at the Dagor Bragollach

: : Other notable elves: : : Glorfindel died in Gondolin : : Ecthelion died in Gondolin : : Celebrimbor died in Eregion, presumably with a great number of the remaining Noldorin lords. : : Gil-Galad died fighting Sauron. It is possible (probable?) that other Noldorin Lords died at this time, though I don't know if any evidence.

: : That leaves Galadriel, the only major player left that was present at the revolt and argued for leaving. I'm sure there is more to add here, but that's a start.

: You left out at least Aredhel and Idril and Finduilas, though I'm not sure if Idril and Finduilas could be counted among the leaders of the rebellion or whether Finduilas was born in Aman or in Middle-Earth. : Anyhow I agree that of the revolt-leaders Galadriel is the only one left. Whether or not elven-lords such as Glorfindel remain, I don't think they can be counted among the leaders of the rebellion, only the Princes (and Princesses) of the Noldor. : -Foradan

OK, discount first age deaths, just take those elves that survived the Wars against Morgoth. In reply to earlier points, yes I am aware of the other Nolso in Middle Earth at the time of the war of the ring, what interests me is those that were banned from returning to Valinor after the first age (of whom Galadriel is one). Glorfindel and Gildor (according to PoME) came FROM Valinor in the second age - Glorfindel is the same one 'kllled' defending the escapees from Gondolin, rebodied and back on M-E. The other 'banees' - who were they, what happened to them etc etc. Maglor didn't die - he's a guest on this board, in seriousness, Tolkein says that he wandered 'ever' upon the shores but never returned to the lands of the elves (I.E the lands in Tolkeins stories) - he could still be with some avari now. I just don't buy the 'only one with a ban applying' stuff - too convenient, too trite and I think inconsistent with what we know about the Valar and their 'doom and judgement' philosophy
