: : : : : No, but the first and the second era are as fascinating as the third one, the best book to continue is The Silmarillion, I think : : : : Yes, the Silmarillion is defenitly the next book to read, it contains lotsa information and not to forget I think the best stories Tolkien has written. And if you want more information after reading the Silmarillion I would suggest Unfinished Tales and The History of Middle Earth series. : : : : Just another thing, after reading the Silmarillion I would read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings again, then you see the stories from a whole new perspective. Just my opinio offcourse. : : : : greetz, lockdar : : : There are also some stories, like Farmer Giles of Ham and Roverrandom (sp?), and some of Tolkien's poetry. Tolkien's essay on Fairey Stories is informative look into the good professor's mind, and a good guide if you're thinking about writing similar stories. Some of the short stories are have been published separately, and some of the short stories, the poetry and the essay were published in a single book. I don't remember the name of the book. : : I believe it was The Tolkien Reader. It included: : : "Tolkien's Magic Ring" : : "The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth Beorhthelm's Son" : : "Tree and Leaf" : : "Farmer Giles of Ham" : : and : : "The Adventures of Tom Bombadill" : And after you read all that, you should get a copy of The Letters of JRR Tolkien, edited by Humphrey Carpenter, and published by Houghton Miffin. It contains a wealth of correspondence including replies to questions from readers. Tolkein was writing about a new threat, and the fourth age, but never finished.
