I firmly agree with your point. It takes a hardcore fantacy literature fan to read, accept, and understand Tolkein's work. Generation X, which I am ashamed to associate myself amongst, are less interested in the great work of such authors, they are indefinitely the television generation. Unfortunately, this lack of will to follow true accomplishments such as reading a trilogy of such depth will only grow with time. There is also the camp of people who simply refuse fiction in its self. These people are simply missing out on the splendour of imagination.
