: : It seems to me that when Tolkien says that hobbit's had big feet that he meant for thier size. I would think that they would be similar to a dwarfs maybe just a little wider. I doubt that a hobbit that is shorter than a dwarf could wear elves shoes. If they could then thier feet must have been gigantic and all Tolkien says is that they are big. Besides what does the size of a hobbit's foot matter anyway? : Size doesn't matter, really. There was a recent discussion on big feet or not big that was prompted by the Hobbits in the new film having big feet. The discussion also included the big feet of hobbits in most ME art. : I was pointing out that since Bilbo wore Elf boots during his adventures, his feet couldn't have been really big. As to Tolkien saying hobbits had big feet, I don't recall where that was said. Pehaps you can tell me. The only references I can recall being made about feet are that hobbits had hair on theirs, and that the troll in Moria had a foot without toes. I'm sorry to say I've made a mistake. I just got out The Hobbit to see how Tolkien described them and all that was said about feet was that they were leathery and hairy so they didn't have to wear shoes. I guess I got the impression that they had big feet. The Proudfoots however were said to have had bigfeet.
