: : : The Elves reforged Narsil with their own arts, true. However, they just put the pieces back together, they didn't make a new sword. It was a great feat, but not nearly as great as the original forging of Narsil. : : : -Olorin : : OK thats all fine, and I understand your reasoning, but please, advise me chapter and verse of where Tolkein explicitly states that the Silmarils and the three rings could NEVER be repeated. : Well it would be pretty silly of the elves to leave ME if they could simply recharge their rings and go on holding back time wherever they wished wouldn't it? : : : With regard to achievement, Aragorn has the dignity of the kings of old restored as does his descendants - therefore achievement has gone back in time to the glory of Numenor : : Don Q : One man does not a glorious civilization make. Dammit, I had a good posting, then my 'puter crashed. The essence was that... The elves last forever. Even if they could re-make a Silmaril to ward off the test of time, would they choose that over the absolution of the Valar? I doubt it. They have finally been allowed back into Aman. Now, if they made an artefact of great power to ward off time, they knows that being immortal, they will last forever, and eventually, they will be swamped by the dominion of men. In which case, the obvious case is to say "Bugger this", and just go back home. So I think that even the possibility of another Ring of power would not keep the elves in Aman. So yes, the elves MAY have the power and lore to remake artefacts such as the Elf Stone, the Palatir, the Rings, and maybe even a Silmaril, BUT that is no reason for them to stay in Middle-Earth, since it has been decreed that the dominion of Men has started. Also, as for Narsil, you must remember that Narsil's light was extinguished. It's power was no more. There weren't ALL the pieces of Narsil, in fact, the only description I could remember, from Strider, was that he had the HILT of Narsil. Anduiril, flame of the West, was basically a new sword, with newly inlaid gems and magical wards. Sure, it's Narsil reforged, but essencially, it's a new sword, made by the powers of Elrond's best smiths. The power to forge good weapons still exist. And that's all just magic. Technology wise, Middle-Earth is moving ahead. Just think of what they could do, after they discover that fireworks can be used as weapons..... faster than any Long Bow, and far more powerful........ No, Middle-Earth is moving ahead, not dwindling. Gandalf
