: Where did you get this info? This sounds like Cabalism. The problem I have w/ Lucifer being jealous of mankind and not willing to bow to "him" is faulty. If this were the case it would give the Devil a "redeeming quality". I believe he has none. To rebel as a result of being hurt (which means you love the person you feel tossed aside by) may be wrong but is somewhat understandible, thus giving the Devil's rebellion and evil and slightly noble "underdog" character to it. The Bible (I know I'm straying from Tolkien, be forgiving) makes it clear that the Devil was jealous of only one thing; God. He wanted His power and position. It was a matter of pure lust for power that did NOT belong to him. The ultimate refusal of acceptance of one's position, otherwise known as HUMILITY.

Easy friend. I was drwaing from Christian mythos here, not specifically fromt eh bible, which DOES NOT discuss Lucifer's fall. Most Christian Mythos was wrapped up in a neat little package by John Milton in Paradise Lost. It is not the best read, but it is a good read. However, the established mythos does state that Lucifer was jealous of humankind, that he refused to bow to them when ordered, and thus began the holy war that cast him out. Whether that jealousy was also for the Throne itself, I don't know. However, God did not reduce Lucifer to so much ash, and ht did not do the same for those who followed him, he simply cast them from heaven. This seems to be (IMHO) to say that God understood Lucifer's jealousy and rage, and that too some extent He may have even sympathized for The Morning Star (remember that Lucifer was the first created Seraphim).

I don't want this to boil down into a theological debate, since I am not a theologian. I was simply drwaing the parallels between Tolkien mythos and Christian mythos.
