: : : :Snip : : : Free Will. We all have free will. We are tempted to leave the path we should follow. The valar left the path, so did elves and men. You can repent leaving the path and return to being frimly back on the path. Even Melkor and Sauron had a chance to sincerely repent.

: : : Pre-destination. Although we have free will, there is destination that our path through life will eventually lead us.

: : : To every thing there is a season. A season for the Valar, a season for the Elves and Dwarves and lastly, a season for Man.

: : : Sounds like Catholicism to me.

: : : Lastly, you and your other create a baby. Although you teach your child what is good and just, your child becomes another Hitler, or mass murderer. Did you create the evil your child has become? No

: : Jst a couple of points - I did not profess this to be my original idea, it was merely some thoughts for discussion, and as for have I heard of faith? Yes of course, but it is a private matter that I am not prepared to discuss here. : : I didn't expect such vehemence, just a discussion.

: You have confused me (Aelmer) with someone else. I did not mention faith in my reply to you.

Fair comment, my apologies for the confusion. To go back to why the topic intersets me and I brought it up - it is easy to draw comparisons between religion in Middle-Earth and Christianity (and also other religious viewpoints), the interesting thing is that Middle-Earth is invented and therefore some definitive conclusions can be formulated, 'real-world' religions are based on faith and no such conclusions can be drawn as you are working from faith and fable, not fact. In short, Eru Illuvatar will act as per the authors instruction, 'God' will act as to the individual's faith and expectations. Eru is therefore a more easily understood and unmasked God as he is not real. 'God' is possibly real, but this cannot be proved (I spent three years at Uni doing philosophy, esp. philosophy of religion - there is no convincing argument either way). Therefore I think the comparison between Eru and God cannot be made - no grounds for comparison. Don Q
