: : : : In the absence of Maedrhos, I must say that Celebrimbor discovered the true nature of the rings only after they were made, and after only the elven rings remained in elven hands. This indicates that during the making of all the rings, Celebrimbor and the elven smiths were only concerned about making the rings, not the nature or intent of the lore they were using. When the nature and intent was discovered, it came too late.

: : : Also, Celebrimbor did know that the knowledge came from Sauron. : : : Celebrimbor and the elven smiths, when offered the knowledge, appear to have eagerly accepted it, no questions asked. This is understandable, to an extent, because of the great feat of Feanor. The opportunity to create something of wonder and power, as Feanor had done, no doubt clouded their judgement.

: : HEY! No fair! You said that you would leave well alone! LOL! : : Ahh, I like this argument anyway.

: : Right, into the breach once more dear friends. There is no indication at all that Celebrimbor didn't consider the gift of Sauron before he used it. In fact, knowing his character, it would seem logical that he DID look long and hard before utilising it.

: : Think about it, the person you hate the MOST suddenly gives gifts of knowledge. Wouldn't you be dubious too? Wouldn't you think long and hard, before using this knowledge?

: Perhaps I've missed something, but why would Celebrimbor have hated the giver of gifts? To him it was just some bloke named Annatar. He didn't know it was Sauron until he made the One. : -Foradan

: : I would say that Celebrimbor DID think about Sauron's ring lore before making any rings. He was adamant NOT to be tricked, remember?

: : It is hard to believe that Sauron would have been able to hide the Trojan Horses so well that Celebrimbor wouldn't spot them. Remember, Celebrimbor made an Elessar, which kept Lorien alive when the Elven rings were hidden. He obviously had great Lore of his own, so I would think that he thought before taking anything proffered by Sauron : : Gandalf

In answer to your point Foradan, Annatar had been refused entry to Lindon by Gil-Galad and Galadriel was wary of him, indeed his presence drove her away to Lorien. Celebrimbor would have been aware of all this and indeed was very much in love with Galadriel although she spurned him for Celeborn. He would have been on his guard the whole time as he had great respect for both G and G-G. Don Q
