: I agree entirely, my point about the elves was that, if those that decided to stay were hangionmg around for a while, then any minor 'baby boom' would lead to an increase in population because of the immortality issue, but I don't think they would have sseen much of an increase for long, just long enough for those that were left to enjoy a free midddle-earth for a while before retreating from the sighht of men forever. : Don Q

In the council of Elrond, it is revealed that Grimbeorn the old (son of Beorn) and his people have been keeping the roads over the mountains clear if orcs as best they can, and from the seat on Amon Hen, Frodo sees that 'The land of the Beornings was aflame' - thus I assume that in the fourth age, they hunted down the orcs of the mountains and began to grow in number Don Q
