: : I think you read me wrong. Either that, or I was VERY unclear. : : I am saying that Vilya was crappy, because for the purpose of this argument, it does NOT serve to help Elrond win any fight at all. Therefore, when we are comparing strengths, Elrond would not be helped by Vilya much. Anyway, the argument is about who is the greater spirit, not who has the better trinket. : : Also, it does not state anywhere that Vilya is the second greatest ring. It may be implied, but I think that it is implied to a greater extent that Bard shot Smaug by luck than that Elrond's ring was the secnd greatest. : It says right in the LoTR that Vilya was the mightiest of the three. It also says somewhere that the three elven rings where stronger than all but the one because they had been untouched by Sauron (I think it was in the UT). : : As for Sauron trying to get the Three, well, did he? I think that he knew fully well where the three would be bestowed, and if the case was that he REALLY wanted to Three, he would have razed Lorien, the Havens, and Imladris long ago. It seems that he couldn't really care less about the Three, because he knew that once he took over Middle-Earth, he would get them anyway. They weren't necessary in his plans at all, so he didn't even bother. : That was his plan before the White Council drove him out of the Mirkwood. It says it right in the UT. He could not because he was driven out by the White Council. : I've not been a major charcter in this argument that y'all have been having over the last few days but it seems to me neither side has forced the other to concede anything. I humbly suggest that we switch topics since nobody is getting anywhere on this one. : Thorin That's what I wanted to do but they wont let it rest. -Thentaran
