: But I was stunned by your "impression" that the Council of : Elrond sat on the floor, except for Elrond himself. It is : clear that Gloin and Frodo, at least, had chairs, for Frodo : scattered the pillows on his chair that served to raise him to : the height of the table when he stood to return Gloin's : greeting. That occurred the evening before, in "Many Meetings", at the dinner Elrond held in Frodo's honor. : And Bilbo did not sing his song of Earendil in the Council : room, but in the Chamber of Fire... [snip] Yes, but though there is no transition between my statement concerning Elrond's table at the Council and Bilbo's song the night before, my point was that Elrond wasn't bereft of stools and yet it seemed the Elves preferred to sit on the floor. I'm not sure of why, but I even picture the High Elves of Finwe's house sitting on the floor when they take council in Hithlum soon after the reconciliation between the Feanorians and most of the Noldor. : I'm sure that you knew all this already, and that your thoughts : just got jumbled momentarily when you were composing that one : paragraph. Thanks again for your very informative post. I'm afraid the vertigo does tend to jumble things all together.
