: The thing is, the movie is a work of interpretation. So, critiquing the movie is critiquing someone's interpretation of the books. I don't see why that sort of discussion can't be intelligent or interesting. Even the rumors that abound serve a function; they make us think about a certain aspect of the movie and thengood debates arise because of those thoughts. Would we ever have discussed the role of Arwen in such depth without the rumors flying around? I would say no. However, I have been fascinated by that debate. : Just another view. : -Olorin I agree to the extent that the discussion remains just that. But too often we have seen posts that are quite enraged at the fact that PJ would dare to change any single word that Tolkien wrote. And that has drawn certain lines in the sand, as it were. I too am open for any discussion regarding the latest rumors concerning the movie. However, I abhore the knee-jerk reactions that so frequent this and other boards. The "Peacock" issue is an excellent example of just such a reaction to what could have otherwise been an interesting discussion. -RR
