: hmm i wondered about that last yr.

: i always came to think in the end that a evil Wizard = a Sorcerer.. but then thinkings like the Witch king have stuffed that up.. i don't quite get that.. isn't a male witch a Warlock??

: do we have and resident witch's?warlocks?wizards?sorcerer's??

: Gandalf are u the closed we have?? what u think?

: Beren Valthôl

The difference between sorcerer, Wizard, and Witch seems to be merely the way that Tolkien wanted to portray things. The Wizards were the istari (Yes, I am from the West). Sorcerer, the Necromancer, and the term "Witch-King" were all contrived to indicate evil doings I think. As someone below (Michael i think) mentions, some elves were said to have used "sorcery" too, but maybe Tolkien ran out of adjectives? Wizards were certainly a different group in themselves. Sorcerers and other dabblers are mainly "evil" characters.

Hey, just thought of something. Because New Zealand is the first country into the new day, I am actually in the far east, not west. Damn that Cirdan, I never should have trusted that dodgey compass he sold me...
