My assertions stem from the fact that Sauron didn't make more rings. The question then becomes, why? There are multiple reasons off of this, but some are more plausible then others, given the evidence that we have. Sauron knew and understood the making of Rings better then anyone else. While I can not discount that fact that he "may have overlooked" the making of more Rings, it doesn't seem logical that he would have. I can not argue against "may haves" since there is no supporting evidence to the contrary. As Gandalf so aptly pointed out, we can assert that Bilbo has a magical hood that will kill Sauron instantly. Without evidence to the contrary, the best that I can say is that that is highly implausible. Which is what the case of Sauron overlooking the idea of making new Rings. This being the case, the my other arguments are the most logical courses. Either Sauron was unable to make more Rings or he was unwilling to make more Rings. I am not going to go back an restate my other arguments, since there is not point in rehashing them one more time. We are no longer arguing evidence but arguing supposition, which has no basis of fact. But thanks, since this discussion has only firmed my opinion of why Sauron didn't or couldn't make more Rings. The truth of the matter, IMHO, lies in those two courses, rather then in the idea that Sauron overlooked the thought. -RR
