: : : sorry to bring this up again.. but i kinda forgot ot check the thread.. and i just have one more thing on the Palantiri.

: : : Aragorn he looked through one of the Palantiri and he was not influenced by Sauron as Saruman was. : : : why is that?? : : : Denethor was also altered by it.. is this due to Aragorn being a heir of Isildur? i.e king of Gondor and Denethor just being a Steward?

: : : or what??

: : : Beren Valthôl

: : : : I believe that it says in LotR that Aragorn being the rightful owner of the Palantir looked into it, and was able to bend it away from Sauron.

: : Also, Aragorn revealing himself as Elesar the king etc, would have troubled Sauron somewhat, which might have at least unbalanced his normal control.

: : Gandalf

: In the UT it states that the palatir were more "useable" for their rightful owners. This is why Saruman is enslaved by Sauron while the best Sauron can manage with Denethor is to drive him to despair. The Stewards had some right to the palantir because they were servants of the heirs of Isildur. For an actual heir of Isildur the right would be even greater. This is why Aragorn a mere man could defeat one the most powerful Maia of all time.

: Thorin

I dunno if defeat is the right word.... I mean, it's not like it was a fair battle of wills. And he didn't really beat Sauron, he just didn't lose. ;)
