The Stewards had some right to the palantir because they were servants of the heirs of Isildur. For an actual heir of Isildur the right would be even greater. This is why Aragorn a mere man could defeat one the most powerful Maia of all time. : Thorin I dunno if defeat is the right word.... I mean, it's not like it was a fair battle of wills. And he didn't really beat Sauron, he just didn't lose. ;) Gandalf
