: : yes i agree..

: : but what about the possiblity of it not just being gold??

: : for example a gold item.. is ually worth more then straight gold.

: : so if he had quite a bit of items.. it could make the figure even bigger.. also what about jems? preious (my presious...) gems and so on worth more then then the same weight in gold??

: : Beren Valthôl

: Don't forget about Bilbo's exceedingly long life. There would have been opertunities for investment and Bilbo would have been very concervative. He would not likely have made many poor money desisions so his wealth very likely grew.

Plus the fact that Mr Baggins was a wealthy landowner before he started - he is one of the Gentry and descended from the Tooks, his mother was an adventurer like him, and no doubt amassed wealth on her travels, and his father a wealthy Baggins. Add two chests full of gold (most kings would say yes please) and a troll hoard and Bobs your Uncle (Or in Frodo's case, Bilbos your uncle). Also remember that Smaug had stolen the entire wealth of Durin's House and piled it up - even a small share of this would be a remarkable sum of money for one individual. Don Quixote
