: : Yes all true, but Elves spirits are immortal, their bodies are : : not. In Morgoths Ring we learn that those Avari and Eldar who : : abandon the call to Aman begin to 'fade' over the millenia, and : : eventually dissipate to spirit. : Elven spirits are no more immortal than Mannish spirits. And MORGOTH'S RING does indeed say that all Elves would eventually fade, but I don't see what that has to do with the point I was making. The fading process is not quite the Elvish equivalent of aging in Men. Elves age naturally. They just take a very long time to do so (except in youth, when they achieve their full maturity in 50-100 years). Sorry I was a little unclear. I meant to make the point that Elven spirits ARE immortal, like Mannish spirits are - the soul. The fact is that an Elven spirit does not go to be with Eru like a mannish spirit on death - it goes to Valinor after being in the Halls of Mandos and then reunited with its body. In Middle-Earth the Elven body ages at a very slow rate - Cirdans long white beard attests to this (he is the oldest elf in middle-earth), and after millenia upon millenia will fade away completely leaving only the spirit. I don't see where we disagree at all MM Don Q
