Actually, the definition you've posted from Websters II is a limited one. Other dictionaries will give similar definitions but may be more inclusive. For example, The American Heritage College Dictionary defines physiology as: 1. the biological study of the functions of living organisms and their parts. 2. All the functions of a living organism or any of its parts. Naturaly-occuring physical features, no matter how you look at them, serve a biological function (one might argue that vestigial organs are the exception), and thus are included in the term "physiology."
