: Actually, the definition you've posted from Websters II is a limited one. Other dictionaries will give similar definitions but may be more inclusive. For example, The American Heritage College Dictionary defines physiology as: : 1. the biological study of the functions of living organisms and their parts. 2. All the functions of a living organism or any of its parts. : Naturaly-occuring physical features, no matter how you look at them, serve a biological function (one might argue that vestigial organs are the exception), and thus are included in the term "physiology." Granted, I only posted part of the Webster's definition, as I was certain that Beren wasn't refering to the study but rather the "nature" of orcs and elves. However, in review of Beren's post you will see that the term is used in the matter of orcs' and elves' physical atributes, which is purely an aestetic matter and not a physiological one. If, instead, we were to talk about how Morgoth in corrupting the elves changed the chemical make-up of the orcs, so that acts of violence or feelings of rage produced high endorphin rushes, and the contrary were understood for elves (e.g. that singing and dancing produced similar endorphins), then we would be dealing with physiology. However, we have no basis for these things, so any discussion on the subject would be pure conjecture, and would only stand on the basis of personal belief as opposed to evidence provided by the text. -RR
