: : : You said it! : : : There was an article in the London Times yesterday which said : : : "For the uninitiated, Galadriel is the good sister of the evil but beautiful Queen Beruthiel, who imprisons the Fellowship of the Ring in the forest of Lothlorien. In the book, Galadriel frees them from her sister's clutches. It's a small but memorable part, and Blanchett lobbied hard for it." : : : This was taken from O.Sharp's classic Tolkien sarcasm page. The : : : reporter apparently didn't realize that it was a spoof. : : Hahahahahahahah : : OMG, anyone could take that seriously. Come on, it's titled the Tolkien Sarcasm page for God's sake!! : : It's a good page, but if a "learned" reporter can't distinguish between spoof and realism, then he needs to learn the word "fact" and how to check for them : : Gandalf : It just shows how many people write about Tolkien without actually reading him. I ran into an article several years back where the journalist thought Lord of the Rings was a sequel to Golding's Lord of the Flies. Thankfully the subject of the article was actaully quite something different, but all the same, it just shows ... Actually, I must say (after years in local media) that many reporters, from local broadcasters to leading newspaper writers, are little more than politically correct, unimaginative, uninspired, and ignorant hacks. Much like every other industry, there are idiots through and through. And much like idiots everywhere, they themselves believe otherwise and you can not reach them. Unfortunately, all of the other idiots read (or hear or view) their drivel and take it as Gospel. (Sigh)
