Things on the fringe of Fringe

Since Fox’s Fringe starts its third season tonight, a lot of media hype is warming up over the show, which follows the adventures of an intrepid group of FBI agents and consultants as they unravel the too-close-knit ties between universes, a calamity accidentally engineered by the now half-insane Walter Bishop (John Noble) when he tried to save the life of a boy who was his own deceased son’s alternate universe twin.

Got all that? Okay, now you know everything you need to know about What Has Come Before.

Meanwhile, back at the press, Explore Howard reviews the second season DvD “full season set” that was just released (they have this merchandising tie-in thing down to a science now, don’t they?). If did not watch the second season, now’s your chance. There is some spoilage in the article.

But if you’re looking for real spoilers (for the third season), TV Fanatic gamely plays along with the media machine, disclosing (and confirming) yet more details, such as the fact that the alternating universe episodes will have different colored opening credits so that everyone can know which universe the episode is set in.

John Noble fans (and who doesn’t love the accomplished actor?) will enjoy reading this article about John and Fringe (so, yes, close your eyes if you don’t want to see hints about what is coming up).

And, finally, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (who seem to work with J.J. Abrams on just about everything) are launching a new series called Exit Strategy. You can get a little more information here but is this just a typically exploitive name from Hollywood’s lexicon or are Kurtzman and Orci really closet Republicans poking fun at the Democrats and their cowardly “we want to cause more havoc and mayhem with bad American foreign policy around the world” antics? Isn’t it time we sent the Democrats and Republicans packing? All they do is screw things up. Maybe we could get John Noble to send them Over There.

Oh well — at least we start to see the third season of Fringe tonight. That’s worth something in the bucket, isn’t it?
