  I NEED this book! I need it and I don't care who knows! Please! Does anyone know when it will be released? It has been a mystery since 2005...Maybe it's already out there, somewhere... HELP!:book:

  At this point, it seems unlikely that this series will be continued. I know Rosemary Edghill has stated (I thought it was on her website) that without Norton's input, she doesn't feel inspired to continue the "Carolus Rex" series.

  I would sincerely hope that whoever controls the literary estate in the future is willing to continue the concept of writing in those worlds started in the coauthored works. I know that Ms. Norton would not want her name attached as a coauthor unless she contributed to the actual writing, but it might be possible to work around that by attributing the 'world' to the two coauthors, and continuing with the same coauthor as originally wrote the majority of the work. It would depend on whether or not that 'coauthor' wanted to continue or not. Time will tell.

  The amount of actual Norton in the later collaborations varied widely, as Irene has commented in other threads. One of the authors thanks The Lady "for allowing me to play in her world," which seems to me to indicate that her input was pretty much advisory in that case. Edghill's attitude, on the other hand (see above), would denote a closer working partnership.
  
  As for going forward with existing shared worlds, the format is already established, with such books as "Ian Fleming's James Bond in 'The Man with the Red Tattoo' by Richard Benson" or "Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe in 'Murder in E Minor' by Robert Goldsborough." In those cases, the original author contributed nothing except the main character, but is clearly credited for that creation, while the new novel is entirely the work of a new author.

  jmelsna, I agree. To my knowledge, Ms. Norton worked closely with the coauthor, but the actual writing, especially for the later coauthored works, was essentially done by the other writer. The earlier coauthored works were more joint efforts in writing, I think. As you said, the idea of shared worlds authorship has extended to scifi/fantasy and is one way of continuing a popular story line. As a reader, I like that, and appreciate that a "world" hasn't "died".

  Perhaps I am remembering this wrong, but I recall Ms. Norton expressing frustration during one of our visits with her that this book had long been completed but was being held by the publisher for some unkown future release date. She was then of the mind that the date was likely to be after her death (for financial reasons). I may have the wrong book, and perhaps others of you know more about this, but I recall her words to this effect ... and her frustration! (I have been looking for this book ever since!) Steve

  Steven, I think that was Three Hands for Scorpio instead, but I could be wrong.

  You are correct. Three Hands for Scorpio is the novel that was SAT on for four long years. She finally got a "rushed " copy three days before she died.
  As for ELVENBRED, I remember Andre saying that She and Misty had outlined both ELVENBORN and ELVENBRED. I just don't remember when, though I was visiting High Hallack at the time. She told me about a very humorous scene at a banquet that was supposed to be in ELVENBRED, so I too would love to read it. However, that is in Misty's hands. Layer Kind Folks--Paul:kitty:

  Hello! I'm new to the forum, I recently read the first three books of the Halfblood Chronicles. If the fourth book does come out, I would greatly appreciate someone giving me a heads up. I actually didn't know that there would be a fourth and waited quite some time to read the third, so I didn't have to end the series. Thanks!
