I don't know of any Church doctrines on the matter but I would have to say that he'd be more "for" than "against" culture because we learn through and from culture. He might be against some types of cultures but the essence of culture itself - expression of ideas - is immutable in human (even some animal) experience. You can't spread the message of salvation without culture.

He was certainly in favor of the traditions of his own culture, and he was quite learned in its history, so we'd have to say pro.
