  The French were angry at the Catholic Church during the Revolution and it was the Age of Enlightenment so many people were atheists and renamed the church the temple of the goddess of reason , which eventually lead to the reign of terror . So much for enlightenment and reason? What went wrong?

  You may want to just carefully read a couple of books on French history to get a more balanced answer to all of that.

  I think "greed and a lust for power" explain a great deal of what went wrong with the French Revolution. But that's just my humble opinion on the matter.
