  Meh. She's painting with a very broad brush and suggesting that adults who enjoy fantasy can't separate that fantasy from reality. That's at best, a hasty generalization, and at worse a suggestion that she herself doesn't grasp how reality works.
  
  This kind of conceit happens from time to time, with headline grabbing articles of beloved character-actors poo-pooing on film and franchise fans. It's silly. The actors are NOT the characters. Even if they were, they don't have the mind of the creators. The actors, especially in an ensemble like this, are such a small part of the overall story, they're really only able to comment on their own experience and how they brought their characters to life—not on how fans should take in and express their own enjoyment.
  
  Actors can offer meaningful insight, but the meaning is really in the full effort of all actors, directing, photography, and release, which makes relying on a single actor's personal view, especially such a throwaway set of lines like this, pretty restrictive.
  
  The real key to over-indulgence is how it impacts your daily life. If you live, laugh, love Harry Potter and it doesn't interfere with your ability to function, then you're fine. Dive in. If it's taking over thoughts and actions to the point of negative outcomes, then it's a problem.

  Looks around the room the computer lives in. Walls full of books. Desk under a pile of sewing stuff. Window hidden behind other books, except for the top two shelves where reside a rabbit, vase, 2 pigs, some pictures, a small Winnie-the-pooh, a castle, and a rug hook punch. Living room has more books and walls hung with dragons.
  
  I manage to live quite well with my obsessions. Long ago I went to Orlando's Universal for the Harry Potter worlds. Twice.
  
  I am a Fan, and not afraid to admit it. But I also manage to live a quite mundane life. Thank you Rob Roy for your assessment.

  Exactly! My wife's a fan as well.  We have three sets of the books (we each brought a set to the marriage and then we picked up the illustrated for our sons), wands on the walls, Ravenclaw, Gryfindor, and Hufflepuff scarves and hats, and she has a Ravenclaw robe that she wears every Halloween.  We've been to Universal Hollywood and Harry Potter so many times, I can't count.
  
  I can assure you, she's fine. For example, in addition to being a science teacher, she's also the head boys and girls volleyball coach and has had a winning season for the last ten years.

  Harry Potter may be for children but I say it's for children of all ages.
  
  Sir Alec Guinness had a similar feeling about Star Wars, I think.
  
  We're allowed to enjoy our imaginations for all our lives. There's no reason to grow up and away from all that fun.

  He certainly wasn't a fan of the films or the work he had done, and there is the anecdote of him being approached by a young fan for an autograph and boasting to have seen the film over 100 times.  This, of course, would have meant going to the theater and paying to see the movie, rather than owning it or catching it on television.

  I can only assume that the actress who said that the fans should "grow up", Miriam Margolyes (Professor Sprout), isn't getting residuals from the movie(s). So there is some sour grapes involved.
  
  I'm an adult, and coping very well, thank you very much. I've got the Harry Potter books in the living room. I saw the movies in the theater, and I watch them when they appear on the TV. I've got a wand in a case on the wall. [Maybe it needs a "In case of emergency. Break glass" sign]. Maybe the "herd" of dragons on the living room walls need to be thinned, but that won't happen soon. There are my Harry Potter bookends, and I have a HP purse/backpack.
  
  I've put the pointy hat in my costume closet, the cauldron is on the top shelf, and I did wear a horrible paisley house dress for Halloween (The movie wizards had such odd fashion sense.)
  
  My first of my HP books isn't a first edition, but the rest of them are. I remember several midnights at the book store. The children in the room, mostly just sitting down with a book as they waited.
  
  I love these books. I usually reread them yearly [As I remember a friend doing with the Lord of the Rings Books.]
  
  I have grown up, and I will continue to enjoy the books, movies, and adventures as long as I want.
