Has anyone here read any of her books? I was just searching randomly through the library awhile ago and took out a couple of her books... and amazingly enough, I really like them!

I read one she wrote with Tracy Hickman, I think it was called Sovereign Stone Trilogy Book 1: The Well of Darkness. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really make me want to read the other 2 books in the trilogy.

Margaret Weis started writing with Tracy Hickman. Their first books were the original Dragonlance Trilogy. They went on to write other books associated with that world, but they also got away from the AD&D-style adventure books. In my opinion, their best collaboration was The Rose of the Prophet, which retained some aspects of their adventure-gaming book style but was nonetheless innovative, entertaining, and well-written.
They wrote a seven-book series about gates between connected worlds, but it went beyond weird for me and I gave up somewhere in the middle of the fourth book.

I rather like the Seven Gates series (What's the series' name? been a long time since I read that). The good books, however, are the later ones, from book 5 onwards. I think you just missed the better books, Michael.
I too like the Rose of the Prophet. It's funny and adventurous. The dragons trilogies, however, are just kind of ok. Not exactly great, but some characters are particularly memorable. Can't say the same for the story, though.

The Death's Gate series is what you folks are alluding to. I'd agree with crys that the payoff is in the final three books. Into the Labyrinth was the best of the lot, IMO.
The inversion of the "normal" good vs. evil relationship into a discussion of the corruptibility of power was well done. Alfred's and Haplo's struggles with their preconceptions and loyalties in the face of events were entertaining and edifying.

I find their books to be consistently good. I always look for one when I am going to be on an airplane, etc. What I don't like are the endings. they are weak, and disappointing because of what went before.
