Another Mystery....

Hi all....I have a memory of reading a story many many years ago when I was a kid. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
It was in my 'Weirdstone of Brisingamen' days, and was a childrens' novel about a couple of kids (details are vague), who went to stay in the country in England, and somewhere there's a dragon that's been seen and reported but is treated as a myth (details VERY vague). Somewhere in the book, the boy ends up captured in the dragon's claws and is taken soaring through the sky to it's lair, the boy then bites the flesh of the claw to try and escape and finds that he can hear the dragon's thoughts (details now fading into oblivion!). There may have been the 'ancient dragon mound' theme in there somewhere.
It sounds silly now I've written it down:anxious:, but I remember it being a really good read.
There was nothing similar to the McCaffrey dragons, and certainly nothing soppy or foolish, in fact it seems to have had a kind of courageous sort of atmosphere, with the 'dark, rainy sky/striving for justice/solving local curse' feel about it.
It was probably nothing like that, and I've got it mixed up with 15 other different books.
