SciFi Guy takes a poke at identifying some of the greatest supervillains of modern history (the past 220 years). There are many potential candidates but most of his selections make sense to me. I'm not sure about the bank robbers, but they do stand out for the weapons and tactics they used.
Quote:Supervillains only appear in movies and comic books, right? They form vast criminal organizations, threaten world stability, and orchestrate crimes that normal villains (criminals) can only dream about.
In today's violent world it takes a lot of evil activity to match the misdeeds of imaginary supervillains. Still, here are a few people whom history will remember as some of the greatest villains to ever live. And while they were not defeated by superheroes, it took a lot of resources to bring them down.
He gives a brief bio of each, explaining why they are on the list. The list of supervillains includes:
- Napoleon Bonaparte
- Adolf Hitler
- Saddam Hussein
- Osama bin Laden
- Mullah Mohammed Omar
- Arturo Guzmin Decena
- Larry Phillips, Jr. and Emil Mătăsăreanu
- Marvin John Heemeyer
- Bradley Manning
- Edward Snowden

I think maybe Joseph Stalin should be included in the list. After all, he not only killed millions of people, he pretty much started the Cold War by pursuing nuclear weapons in order to match the United States (which was also seeking to develop influence in eastern Europe through the Marshall Plan). The United States and the Soviet Union used many proxy nations and puppet leaders to wage their "cold" war against each other for decades. Some of the people in the list (such as Saddam and Osama Bin Laden) were "cold war" puppets.
Who would you have included as a real supervillain, and why?
