...CBS has been approached by more than one SVOD rival interested in reviving a Star Trek series. That told network execs it was a no-brainer to steer the show to CBS All Access...

Dark and serious, with a heaping helping of shaky cam was the order of the day (or it appeared that way to me). Thankfully we

Quote:The series is “set ten years before Kirk, and will bridge the gap between Enterprise and the original series,” said Fuller. “We’re most closer to Kirk’s mission and get to play with that iconography.”This is disappointing news. I thought they'd said earlier that it was set in the TOS movie era, which seems like a much more open place to work in. Another prequel runs into the same issue that Enterprise did from a design standpoint. that everything looks newer than what we've seen on TOS. On the bright side, maybe T'Pol can make an appearance.
Quote:It looks like the series will be serialized. Fuller said it was like a “novel over thirteen episodes. No problem here. I think that's probably a good idea, rather than strictly episodic stuff.
Quote:The character who is the star of the show will not be the captain in this series, but a lieutenant commander according to Fuller. “We’ve seen six series from the captain’s point of view,” he explained. “To see a character from a different perspective on the starship, one who has a different dynamic relationships with a captain, with subordinates, it gave us richer context.”This seems like an odd statement from someone who worked on Star Trek previously. As a viewer, I've never felt that the shows were from the Captain's perspective. It's always been an ensemble cast. It's not as though every episode focuses on the Captain. If anything it sounds like this show will focus more on one character than we're used to. Which isn't a problem.
Quote: “absolutely we’re having a gay character,” said Fuller. “We’ll probably have a few more aliens than you normally do in a Star Trek cast,” said Fuller. Expect the show to be a little more graphic than fans are used to seeing. “It will probably be slightly more graphic content”It just depends on how they handle it. I can see it going off the rails. There's no problem with having a gay character. If the character has a family and they want to explore said character's family life, like say the episodes with O'Brien and his family, great! If the character is single and there's a subplot about them becoming close with another crew member, fantastic! Star Trek relationships are about the relationship. For all the talk of Kirk's conquests, and the occasional decontamination rub-down in Enterprise, sex has never really been the focus of Star Trek. Are there sexy elements? Sure! But lets not turn it into another trashy show with gratuitous sex scenes everywhere, and then try to sell it as being progressive.
