I am trying to envisage what earth will be like. The 13th colony of Kobol left many millenia ago. Will they find a another advanced race with FTL or will there be an attempt to bring the history of earth in line with established history.
Certainly the civilisations of Rome and Greece believed in many gods, but how will all this fit in with what we already know to be true of our own evolution from apes etc?
Will they like it when they get here. Pollution, war, divided countries fighting over natural resources. Global warming, poverty.
What will be the impact of there arrival be? I never saw the original series covering this issue so my questions are mainly my own curiosity.
I am sure I'll come up with many more diverting questions as I study for my finals.... -

Grin, well I am sure we understand your need for diversion and are at your service!
My thinking is that, somewhere in the circle, they willl arrive in the quite distant past (given a straight-line local history), taking up eventual roles as gods to the peoples present. That is why I want Hera to have a little brother. For the moment, I am stuck on the spiral thing, as in earlier messages. This group takes some humans to colonize Kobol. And the rest you know as around we go.
Any diverting thoughts in this direction? (I know you will do well - stress is such a wonderful motivator! )

I originally thought that they would wind up in Earth's distant past. With pagan worship of the Greco-Roman gods so prevalent, it made sense.
But then, along came the space beacon. So perhaps Earthlings have space travel, after all.
There are a couple possibilities.
1) They find a space-faring, though divided Earth, some hundred years or so in our future. Some demons, like pollution, hunger, and disease, may have been eradicated. But humans are still fearful, greedy, spiteful beings who might not welcome these strangers from the stars.
2) They land on a beach where they find Charlton Heston kneeling beneath the broken remains of the Statue of Liberty. "Those d++++med bloody apes!" -

Well, but where did the gods and people on Kobol come from to begin with?
We know people evoloved on Earth.
We know the Cylons, which have some "super"-Human powers, are evolved from creatures created by Man.
And two Cylons we know the Humans will accept in their midst are now called "Athena" and "Hera". Yeah, Hera needs a brother. And yeah, she's with the Cylons at the moment, but after all, Baltar is there too.
And round and round we go.
When you've made Earth in whatever "present day" is uninhabitable, where do you go? To a non-polluted planet you know about, devoid of higher life forms just now, called Kobol, perhaps, with your remnant Human and Cylon and hybrid population, to begin again and build a new and perfect civilization living in harmony [with a great Opera House], until some violent Human comits murder and mucks it all up again ............... -

I like the Charlton Heston scenario.
Perhaps they find Earth with the Cylons on their tails and a final climactic battle ensues only to run into Picard and the Enterprise (Kirk not being available)
Seriously though, I remember reading here some theory someone had (don't remember who) that maybe everything is in reverse. That humanity started from Earth, went to the stars to Kobol then the colonies.
I'd like to raise a point that nobody ever brought up:
When they were in the Tomb of Athena on Kobol, they saw the 12 colonies in the sky as view from Earth. Is it just me or did it look like they were standing in Stonehenge? -

That was me who said, that Earth is the start point, from there the Gods and Humans went to Kobol, then the Humans split and 13 Tribes departed Kobol, 12 to form the connected group now a remnant population on the run, seeking the last who went (back) to Earth.
Yes, the psychic view, or whatever it was, of the 12 Constillations, star signs of the 12 Colonies of Kobol (when they were still known by their ancient names) did indeed look sort of like they were standing in a henge; there are of course many ancient henges, Stone Henge on Salisbury Plain being the most famous. -

Sorry, Have not been posting that long. My thought from early on watching this show, when they kept saying "all of this has happened before", was that the "gods" on Kobol with the Humans came to be there, from Earth, and then as the gods ....... what? died out? ....... and the Humans departed Kobol, the 13 th Tribe went back to Earth, long remembered ancestral home.
Now we have the one "tame" immortal cylon named Athena and her half-caste daughter named Hera, and the cylons too are headed .......... back to Earth. Is it not odd that each cylon whom the Humans will accept has a "gods" name? ["Goddess"] And how long do the cylon bodies last? Do they age? And do they not have "super human" powers to the same degree the ancient gods had, and the same power struggles and "fallibilities" and same penchent to frak around, and the ancient gods? Might not humans of later generations revere them as "gods"? And might not the cylons themselves retain an understanding that they were real, but not "god"? -

I was just assuming they would encounter modern earth - which I am afraid of. They will end up putting the 13th colony right in the sights of the technologically superior Cylons. What would we do? We can't aim nuclear missiles with enough precision to hit base ships.
I wonder if the 13th colonists ended up stopping in our galaxy on the way to earth and colonized some smaller planets here and there? -

If the 13th tribe arrives to Earth around our "present" time, then if and when Galactica arrives it would be sometime after the year 4006 AD.
Maybe Galactica and the Fleet ARE the 13th tribe. -
